What Does A Notary Do?
Notaries are public officials primarily concerned with the authentication and certification of documents and signatures for use abroad. Their responsibility is towards the document or the transaction it represents rather than to any one of the parties to the transaction.
Examples of such transactions and documents include
- Powers of attorney
- The certification of Passports and other documents
- Statutory declarations
- Applications to foreign trade registers
- Documentation in connection with buying and selling property abroad
- Opening a foreign bank account
- Documentation in connection with the administration of a deceased’s estate and foreign assets
- Assignment of patents or inventions
- Obtaining an Apostille and arranging the legalisation of documents at Foreign Embassies or Consulates
- Foreign adoptions
